Centered Living

Awareness, Possibility, and Action

Centered Living is the name of my somatic coaching and bodywork practice and the goal of the work.

Most of us spend our days wrapped up in conversations inside our head. I work with people to help them discover how their thinking, fears, anxieties, and daily actions directly affect the tension held in their body, breath, and mood, and contribute to their health, wellbeing, and quality of life. By releasing what is holding them back, my clients move forward in their lives and are able to do great things. Comfortable in their own skin, often for the first time, they are at home in the world.

What I Do

I help people shift the embodied patterns that create stress, tension, pain, disease, or keep them from living fully. I see it as "less is more work." It's about creating space and presence for what wants to come to form, or be expressed. Guided by life experience, intuition, finely attuned touch, and healing and martial arts traditions, I "use everything" in my work. It's an organic process, rather than a set procedure. It's about making contact and helping people tap into their inner power.

I listen to the language of "body as self" as it's revealed in posture, breath, mood, energy level, voice and words, skin color, muscle tone, "quality of tissue," gait, and movement. The work is done sitting, standing, moving, or lying down, depending on what's needed. Somatic coaching, kinesthetic exercises, bodywork, and at-home practices to support the learning are framed inside the bigger picture of client goals and concerns. Read one client's tale.

I typically work with clients for a minimum of 3 to 6 months. I offer most of my work in both individual and group formats.

Services

Somatic and Transformational Coaching — Coaching for optimal living through building awareness-in-action of the unity of body, mind, emotions, and spirit

Sensibilities and practices from somatics and body-centered therapies, martial and healing arts, movement and language help people awaken to and fulfill their potential. Presence, touch, breath, and kinesthetic exercises help people align with their vision in creating and fulfilling their lives. I teach practices for lifelong personal and community learning, and vital, graceful living. Bodywork is often part of the coaching process.

Somatic and Transformational Bodywork — Bodywork that resources awareness of the inner self and sensations to help transform one's internal and external life and actions

My bodywork uses touch, breath, awareness, and energy work to bring awareness into the body to loosen, and heal what's painful, lost, hidden, or forgotten. I draw from deep tissue, polarity, and myofascial work, as well as light touch and off-the-body healing techniques. Produces transformational shifts in levels of pain, energy, relaxation, and comfort and induces a state of aliveness. A session typically contains coaching and assessments.

Self-Care and Healing Arts: Maintenance and repair practices for body, mind, emotions, and spirit

I use and teach self-care practices and healing arts, including meditation, breathing, qi gong, self- and couples massage, hands-on healing, and somatic exercises as a part of my private and group sessions. I also teach them as stand-alone lessons and classes.

Couples In Touch: Communication in the language of touch and the body

  • Touch Communication: Massage for Couples
I work with couples who want to communicate better, especially in touch. I teach a variety of simple massage techniques and routines they can use for relaxation and to relieve stress, pain, and muscle tension. The focus is on building communication and connection through their quality of presence, touch, language, and the art of giving and receiving.
  • Somatic Coaching for Two
Somatic coaching can help couples identify their unproductive patterns — both individually and as a couple — and build a more joyful and satisfying relationship. We use somatic exercises, breath, words, touch, play, movement, meditation, and more.

Couples in Touch work is offered in both private session and class formats.

My Way of Touch

My way of touch is listening closely to the quality of tissue and everything else about my client. I see and feel where life energy and breath are flowing and where they're stuck. I use this information to help the client connect her body to what she's saying about her life.

The presence and intention of the practitioner and client are key and add deep value to the work. My experience - when touch meets tissue, coupled with awareness and breath - is that instantaneous, holographic, and structural transformation can occur. As the coach guides the client's attention to be fully present to internal sensations and conversations — like "must be present to win" — a whole world appears.
